THE PLOT:
An atomic bomb test on the top of the world has results that no one was expecting. A previously undiscovered veriety of Dinosaur
that was frozen in ice for millions and billions of years is thawed and re-awakened.
The Rhedosaur is now alive and well and out to reclaim the Earth as his own, and he starts by returning to his old stomping
ground, which is now the area known as New York City and they thought they had problems before.
ZEDD'S OPINION:
Ray Harryhausen proves himself the master of monsters and a lesson to filmmakers if having a low-budget is no excuse for
making a bad movie. Beast From 20,000 Fathoms is a perfect example of a low-budget used the right way. In the story and the
effects. The acting was pretty good, but I wish they explored more on when the history of the Rhedosaur. Plus, is it just
me or was I the only one thinking an atomic bomb test in Antarctica was a completely idiotic idea? There should have been
some scientist saying this is a bad idea, flooding for one when the heat of an atomic blast causes massive melting on the
ice cap. I mean it is ICE after all. But stupid ideas aside, it's a pretty cool movie worth watching over and over again.
I give it 9 STARS!
VOLTRON'S OPINION:
I agree with Zedd 100% on this one. The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms if worth watching over and over again. It's cool, it has
great effects and great cast. It's one of the great movies of all time. 9 VERY BIG STARS!
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (- HITS):
+ COOL DINOSAUR (A new cool dinosaur like nothing we've seen before.)
+ STORY (The story really works.)
+ CHARACTERS (The characters were well written.)
+ CAST (The cast does a great job.)
+ GOOD USE OF BUDGET (A well made movie with the handicap of a small budget.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- DUMB MOVE (Okay, what military genius thought detonating megatons of heat in Antartica was a good idea? I hope the Rhedosaur
at him first.)
- SCIENTIST (Where was the scientist saying, this is a really bad idea?)
...AND FINALLY....
- FAN BASED (If you aren't big on Dinosaur movies, then this isn't for you.)
